garlic quality
We sort our certified organic Quebec-grown garlic with care.
Grade 1: Le Petit Mas garlic is visually and tactilely inspected before it goes out from the warehouse. Grade 1 garlic is firm, covered with skin and has no visual sign of disease.
Grade 2: The garlic is sorted and the damaged parts are removed. Grade 2 garlic is perfect for consumption but is not aesthetic. This garlic is not recommended for planting. The producer who decides to choose this garlic for planting will have to sort the garlic and plant only the finest cloves.
garlic size
We classify our garlic according to the size of the bulbs. Here is the classification for the «Music» variety garlic.
Small size: 30 g and under, diameter of 41 mm and under, approximately 40 bulbs per kilogram, between 110 and 120 seedlings per kilo**.
Medium size: 30 g to 50 g, diameter of 44 mm to 47 mm, between 24 to 31 bulbs per kilogram, between 80 and 120 seedlings per kilo**.
Large size: 50 g and over, diameter of 50 mm and over, between 10 to 15 bulbs per kilogram, between 52 and 65 seedlings per kilo**.
Le Petit Mas recommends medium or large garlic for planting, as it will tend to produce larger garlic bulbs the following year. However, note that this is not a guarantee since other factors influence the size of the bulbs (temperature, soil, etc.).
*Sizes are set by the Garlic Growers Association of Ontario.
**The number of bulbs per kilogram is for information purposes only and can vary from package to package. One thing is certain: you will always get 1 kilogram of garlic!
